Foursquare, just in case you’ve never heard of it, is a smartphone application that allows you to share your location with friends. So, when you walk into a pub or restaurant you can “check-in” and your friends will see where you are on a Foursquare map. It’s part social network and part game because you can earn points each time you check-in. You can also earn badges for doing other, quirky things. If you raise enough points you become “Mayor” of a certain place or area.

We’re big fans of Foursquare here at Rosa’s and that’s why we were keen to help host and promote the event and the Society. Although we missed out on getting a Swarm Badge by just 4 people (we needed 50 check-ins) the attendees appeared to enjoy themselves – we did too.

The Mayor of Rosa’s Spitalfields,  a postion currently held by a nice chap named  Sidney Bosley (who I met earlier this month), gets a free Tea Smith Tea each time he visits. In Soho, we give a free snack to anyone that checks-in for the first time.

It’s called FindADinner.com and it launched this week in London. Rosa’s Soho has just signed up as one of their partner venues.

The company claims to be first anywhere to introduce, “Dinner Networking”. A concept where they host dinner parties at London restaurants with groups of people around the same age.

The founder is a chap named Paul Skipworth and he described the benefits of the concept as such, “There’s no awkward one-on-one confrontation like speed dating events and no room for false impressions like online dating sites; or if you’re new to town and just want to make some new acquaintances this looks like a great way to do it.”

If you’ve ever been to Rosa’s Spitalfields you may have noticed that we have a blue plaque on our building. As you can see it proudly states that Bud Flanagan, the singer, songwriter and comedian of yesteryear was born in a room above our restaurant.

If you walk past Rosa’s anytime during the next two weeks keep an ear out as you might, just might, be able to hear Bud’s voice spilling out on to the street from our basement.

Not sure what’s happening but it might have something to do with an interesting project that’s been put together by BBC Radio 3’s Max Reinhardt and Ellie Folkes from the Spitalfields Music Festival.

Bud will be performing from now to 26th June.
